London 3 Day opens women’s endurance competition to under-21 riders!

Young cyclists will race alongside experienced elite athletes at an event that has welcomed some of Britain’s biggest track stars

The London 3 Day is inviting female cyclists aged under 21 to apply for the opportunity to compete alongside an experienced elite rider in its women’s endurance team competition.

The initiative will give promising young athletes the chance to experience high-level racing at one of the UK’s leading track cycling events while learning directly from an established competitor.

The London 3 Day has previously welcomed some of the sport’s biggest names, including track stars Emma Finucane, Katie Archibald and Neah Evans. It has also provided a stage for emerging talents on the track and road, such as Cat Ferguson.

Selected applicants will be paired with experienced elite cyclists to form teams combining youthful ambition with top-level racing knowledge. Over the course of the event, the young riders will gain first-hand experience of preparation, tactics, teamwork and the demands of competing on consecutive days.

Known for its fast racing, distinctive team format and passionate crowds, the London 3 Day offers aspiring competitors an opportunity rarely available elsewhere in the sport: to race with, rather than simply watch, an elite athlete.

London 3 Day founder Tony Gibb said:

“Cycling has an exciting generation of young female riders coming through, and we want to give them a platform on which they can take the next step.

“Racing alongside an experienced elite athlete is an incredible way to learn. These young riders will be able to see how their teammates prepare, communicate and make decisions under pressure—and then put those lessons into practice in front of a big London crowd.

“The London 3 Day has hosted outstanding champions and some of the brightest emerging talents in cycling. We hope this initiative will help the next generation imagine themselves following that same path.”

The programme forms part of the event’s commitment to developing the next generation of endurance cyclists and encouraging more young women to pursue competitive cycling at the highest level.
